A PLACE FOR MY RANDOM THOUGHTS AND HAPPENINGS

28 Dec 09
–Once I get the go-ahead from my neurosurgeon, I plan on getting heavy back into running, something I need to battle my unfortunate adverse reactions to stress (a little sarcasm…just a little). When I’m running, everything goes away and provides a great opportunity to hash out where my novel has been, where it’s going, and what the next one will be about. Not be able to go to my “happy place” makes me stir-crazy.

My father and my brother have plans to run the Mount Desert Island Marathon next October, and with any luck (and neurosurgeon approval) I will be alongside both of them (at least at the starting line)….my dad will probably kick both of our asses. For Christmas, I got by dad the book, “I run, therefore I am–NUTS!” which is not too far from the truth…my dad is a running demon. He is THE reason I ever got into running, running next to him occasionally when I was growing up. Years later, I used running to quit smoking…three times…and realized it was a great source of relaxation for me….and HEALTHY….”how ’bout them apples!” as my dad says on occasion.

The MDI Marathon will be my brother’s second Marathon (we did the 2005 Maine Marathon as a first for both of us), my third, and my father’s first. I actually had a beer at mile 23 of the Maine Marathon (hey, it was free and tasted freaking awesome!)…many thanks to the two or three dudes manning the keg:-) The last Marathon I did was the 2008 Big Sur Marathon (3:50:58) and was the best running experience I have ever had…great support, great views, and my first under 4-hour marathon. But running with my brother and my dad on his first marathon will top that any day.

Been a while since I looked at your website. I like the little the entries with the calendar date beside them…it feels like I’m reading your diary :-)

Can’t wait till the MDI Marathon. I couldn’t have made it to the finish line during the Maine Marathon without you. Sorry I slowed you up…but hey, you got to have a nice frosty beverage AND you still finished ahead of me.

I have a feeling that you and I will be fighting for 2nd place behind the ol’ man. Don’t let the grey hair fool you; that tiny 120lb man (soaking wet) can run like the wind.

    Take care brotha luv!
